Introduction

In 2005, the Spanish Respiratory Section of the Spanish PICU society (SECIP) started an educational project promoting non-invasive ventilation, first in Spain and Portugal. Later on, as a member of the Respiratory Section of ESPNIC, the word was spread in Europe. Since 2011, WFPICCS meetings have been a great platform allowing us to run face to face workshops or even a 2-day course in Istanbul in each of its congress. Unfortunately, due to the COVID19 pandemic, face to face meetings and workshops will be minimal for at least one year.

Like many others, we decided to innovate by creating online educational content. Nevertheless, we did not want to go back to video lectures on PowerPoint, so an Educational event mimicking, as much as possible,  a face to face advanced simulation course was designed.

Thanks for joining our first online NIV workshop using advanced simulation scenarios. Let me share with you some details about what you will find in this innovative workshop.

Housekeeping Issues

When connecting to the Zoom platform, you will have a role. You are supposed to be an NIV expert working for a Telemedicine company providing support to a small community hospital. It means that the team in the Emergency room/Intermediate care Unit /taking care of the patient will ask you the experts what to do when they are doubtful. Attendees will have available a poll for each question raised. The team will execute the attendees’ most voted option in the room.

At the end of the scenario, we will conduct a debriefing session moderated by several international experts. Both chat and raise your hands’ options will be available. The moderators will coordinate to make it coherent as fluent as possible.

SIMULATION WORKSHOP: HOW TO CONDUCT LOW-COST HIGH-FIDELITY SIMULATION

OBJECTIVES:

  • To teach and show the use of low-tech materials in the development of Medical Education based on Clinical Simulation

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT:

  • Several video recordings showing the conduction of different critically ill children simulated scenarios for staff training using low-cost and commonly used materials will be displayed.

FORMAT:

  • 3 scenarios have been prepared in 3 distant countries: Spain, Mexico and Russia. Each scenario consists of 3 stages and after the 3 scenarios there will be a final debriefing stage with all the participants.
